Edition »100«
The History of 100 German Towns and Cities
Edition »100« is the collection of 100 atlases of historic German towns. It is presented in four synthetic folders in two boxes of a format of 37 x 52 cm at a price of 1180 Euros.

The selection of towns takes into account the regional conditions of Germany, from North to South, and from West to East. The topology encompasses every type of town in Germany. All functional types are represented with respect to their historical origins. The changing density of the urban network is also accounted for by the complete coverage of the space.

Documentation of the urban landscape around 1800:
Each atlas contains, true to the sources, the exact representation of the earliest cadastre map: the record of the first general survey at the beginning of the 19th century. At a scale of 1:2500, this map depicts the precise urban plan down to plot level, before industrialisation and the emergence of "downtown" areas. Due to its value as a source it must be counted among documentary evidence. In order to facilitate the direct, diachronical comparison, a contemporary map at the scale of 1:5000 is added to the documentation of the urban plan. Both maps have been carefully cartographed anew with up-to-date printing technology. Additional maps, plans and illustrations complete the insights into urban history of around 1800.

Interpretation of urban history from the foundation to the present day:
100 authors - all of them accomplished practitioners of urban history - have charted the phases of growth from the earliest settlements up to modern times in a special map. This presentation is supplemented by a highly interesting commentary on the entire urban history. The combination of text, maps, and illustrations is particularly enlightening. Any given information is documented and verifiable in the annotations.

A unique collection of 100 histories of German cities and towns in a limited edtion:
Edition »100« presents - for the first time - the entire urban landscape of Germany in a single collection. The topography of the towns can be compared even at plot level. The additional maps in combination with the respective commentary impart to the reader an allencompassing overview of the history of 100 German towns and cities, in the Germany of today and of former periods.
